I wish shoes were things that multiplied.  Like rabbits.  Or cockroaches.  Think of all of the wonderful things you could find in your closet if that happened!  “Oh look, Honey!  The stork delivered a new pair of Guccis this morning.  How lovely!”  Or, "Awww, look at the cute blue Nikes.  You know, I really wanted pink, but as long as all of the laces are intact, that's all that matters."  This type of proliferation would support the endless line of Papuans who come to our door begging for shoes.  I think we gave away 2 pairs of shoes last week, and one of them was Eric’s size TWELVE work boots.  I’m imagining two people wearing those at once!   The other shoes went to a guy that I’d played volleyball with, who had cut out the sides of his running shoes so that his wide forest-feet (Eric calls them Hobbit feet) would fit.

We’re going to need to work harder on wearing out our current shoes so that we can use this shoe recycling program again.  I'm starting to wonder if I'm called "The Shoe Fairy".
