Me: Gyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!

And now we know what sound I make when I step on a slug while barefoot.

Don't worry.  We've determined it wasn't Johnson.

On sunny mornings, the Papuans who live in the village below our town come up to go shopping.   Many of the ladies walk barefooted, carrying their purchases in a stretchy, woven bag from their head.    Coming into town is also a time to socialize with some of the Papuans who work for the company.  I wanted to get a few candid photos of the people doing their everyday activities so that you could better picture what it's like to be here.   I had to be sneaky though because with that many people around, it was inevitable that I would be noticed.   But in the bright sunlight, I was blending in with the white Toyotas quite nicely.   Who says rain forest cammo has to be green?

  December 11, 2009

My apologies to everyone for not updating you in a while.   Time has been flying by and I JUST NOW realized that it was mid December already.   A summary of the past week or so:

- Cherine moved her office again, back to the big office building, and will probably end up back in her original office.   This time I think I'll redecorate.

- One of us is going to the hospital twice a day for respiratory therapy to prevent pneumonia.

- The Papuan art dealer cut us off from buying more drums.   Cut us off!   Those are my favorite things.   He says we have enough.   So now he is going to try to get us to buy a dead, stuffed Bird of Paradise, and we will probably end up buying it just because we are trying to help him and his family.   What on earth am I going to do with that??!

- We got a new hot water heater, and the poor guys putting it in had to do it with flashlights because the power went out right after they got here.   But now both of us can take a shower on the same day because it's about twice as big as our previous water heater, and isn't half-filled with mud.   Exciting!

Anyway, it's been a busy week.
