On This Episode of “Survivor”

A landslide damaged the drinking water catch dam here, and the entire town is on restricted water use, which is pretty easily enforced because almost no water comes out of the taps, and when water is flowing it is murky.  And interestingly enough, we can no longer buy bottled water at the store because of an environmental effort to reduce plastic waste.  Tonight I think we’ll set out all of our big bowls and hope it rains.  If it rains hard, you’ll find me employing the shampoo and soap out on my balcony.duck

Survivor - Episode 2

Yesterday after 3 days without showering,  we were given a repreive: a 2-hour window in which the water would be on and clear, but still not drinkable.  I tried to think of it more like camping.  You know... when you have to wash dishes out of a hot pot of water, dunk your head in a bucket to wash your hair and wash yourself with whatever temperature of water is readily available – in our case, slightly cool because the hot water heater had filled with the murky water from two days before when the landslide had filled the fresh-water catch dam.  But unlike camping, we get to sleep in our own soft bed, and we aren’t covered in that campfire smell... well, perhaps that would have been a good thing after not showering for 3 days…
